All the horses were out, but were treated to easy work only. Dick Swiveller and Whakawai have been backed for the Caulfield Cup for 1 £2000 at 100 to 3, 100 to 4, and I 100 to 5. j The New Zealand colt Carbine, wbo j was being supported at 10 to 1 for the V.R.-C. Derby, has since receded I j to 4 to 1, the latter price being freely J taken. Latest betting on fche Metropolitan —Touchstone, Lamond, and Abercorn, 8 to 1 ; Cardigan and Blarney, 10 to 1 ; others unalterd. Lamond has been backed to win tbe ! Caulfield Cup for £10,000, and 100's to 4 and 5. Chkistchubch. Sept. 18. Carbine has been scratched for all engagements at the MetropolitanI meeting.
