Mr John Lysaught (limited) have received a cable from their Bristol house advising an advance of Orb corrugated iron to £16 17s, f.o.b. at London, with an active demand and price advancing. In the case of Churtoa v. McCaul, an action which involves Mr Churton's estates at Wanganui, Mr Jellicoe, for the plaintiff, aaked, for the purpose of saving expense, that Mr Churton's appeal should be removed into the Court of Ai.peal. The bill lor the Attorney* General was consented to, and the Court made an order accordingly. Mastebton, September 12. Mr J. C. Vallance, well-known in racing circles, died last night at Kaumingi station, after a brief illness. Chbistchubch, Sept. 11. In the Resident Magistrate's Court today C. H. Williams, owner of the race* horse Sultan, sued Patrick Campbell, one of the Stewards of the Plumpton Park races, for £28 10s, the amount of prize money in the Winter Handicap, which had not been paid. Nonpayment was not denied, but it was contended the stewards are not liable. The point wil» be argued on Saturday. Haweba, This Day. The inquest into the recent fire in Hawera concluded last evening. The jury found thai the place had been raali ciously set on fire. Langley was con* mi t ted for trial on the coroner's warrant in the District Court. Invebcabgill, September 12. A women named Elizabeth Charlotte Allen alias i hemista nlias Wong Lee, was committed for trial at Keverton for manslaughter of her infant child. The evidence shows she went about helplessly intoxicated with her child, which she neglected to feed or clothe properly. The medical testimony was to the effect that the child died from starvation. Thames, September 12. Herbert Ashley, 18 years old, was killed to-day whilst wonting in the slopes in the Sommerhill claim. Dea*h was instantaneous, two tons of stuff falling on his chest, crushing it tearfully. His parents were absent in Auokland on a visit. The verdict at the inquest was accidentally killed, no blame being attuched to anyone. A telegram has been received from a Thames resident, now in Mcl bourne, reporting the successful floating of the Barrier Copper Mine Company, with a capital of £250,000. Dunedin. September 12. Detective Bain, who has been connected with Otago Police Force for 14 years, has been compelled to resign in consequence of ill health. He was presented with a purse of sovereigns on leaving for Melbourne.
