THE ROTUNDA.
i• . * TO THE EDITOR OF THK.STAR. Sir<— l fully expected to see several letters iv your journal about- the great? Baud* Rotunda long before this, as the public are tuakiug great complaints about the site -that has been selected. During the whole time the* Peilding Band has been playing on the. Square, they have only been kuowu to play on the above site once or twice. They have always played opposite Mr Gosiiiig's, which, any person with conimoA; sense must admit, is the most suitable* of any part of the Square; to play pn.i ~Thiß being admitted, how is it they have not built the Rotunda 1 on ttat spot ? The members of the Band say the Council ordered them, to build the Rotunda where they .have erected it. I have hear 4, .from a reliable authority, that the Council' had nothing to do with selecting the site; they merely gave the Band permission to erect it on any part of the .Square. If the Council authorised them to build it where it now is, I would ask the Council to give the public their reasons for choosing the above site in preference to the «pbt opposite Mr Gosling's, as it lias been built, for the benefit of the ' public amusement ; but lam of opinion, instead of being . built for the benefit of the public, it has been erected on that spot for the benefit of oneor~two individuals. — I am, &c, JUBTIOE. fThe following is a copy of the resold? tioh passed by the Council :—"Proposed b j Cr Worsfqld, seconded by Or Chamberlain, That permission be given to the Feilding Brass Band to erect a stand in Manchester Square, opposite* Hastie's HoteV subject to the approval of the Engineer, the Council reserving the right' to remove it on giving six months' notice. Carried." — Ed. F.S.I
