Social Gathering

The annual social gathering and promenade concert in connection with St. John's Church took place last evening at the Foresters' Hall. There was a large attendance, and the limited dimensions of the hall prevented those present doing much in the way of promenading, but otherwise the affair must be pronounced a success in every way. The Bey. A. Hermon presided over the proceedings, which for the most part consisted of the rendition of selections of instrumental and vocal music by members of the choir and others. The names of the ladies and gentlemen who entertained the company by songs, glees, solos, duetts, &c, were — Mesdames Hermon, Macarthur, Dowling, Holden, and Owen; Misses Bellve, Koe. Liddle, Saxon, Bray, Goodbehere, and Beattie ; and Messrs Hermon, Badley, E. and F. Goodbehere, Nicholas, Hartgill, Lambert and Fowler. During the interval refreshments were served out to all present. These good things were so much in abundance that before the close a large balance was disposed of at Dutch auction, under the conduct of Mr Haybittle. The meeting terminated by the singing of the National Anthem. We ought to mention that among the attendants were a good of the members of several other churchefi in the town.
