Football
.Notes hy " Off Side.]') X was somewhat disappointed on Saturday in not seeing the whole of the local team, which is likely to play Palmerston next Saturday, roll up for practice, as they ought to have done. The play was very fair considering, but unless the local men show some signs of improvement, their chance of pulling off the game from the Palmerston men jrill be very poor. I hear the latter will consist of some "big 'una" who will take a lot of doing to hold against, let alone heat. A. D. Thomson, the best hack in the Wellington Club, leaves for Cromwell, in order to assume the omce of Clerk of Courts in that township. He will, however, only be absent for a month or six weeks. The first match played hy the Englishmen in Australia under the Association rules resulted in a victory for Carlton by 13 goals to 3.
