Kiwitea Road Board

The ordinary monthly meeting of the above Board was held on Saturday. Present— Messrs Williamson (in the chair), Haythorne, Lucas, and Bruce. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read : — i From H. McDonald, asking the board to make a track to his section in the Pohangina. From Streeton & Co., re contract on Valley road, stating that Mr Dunbar had felled trees on the contract, and asking who was to clear them away. From J. H. Walker, re expenditure of money in Birmingham Special Settlement Block. "From District Surveyor, thanking the Board for acceding to his request re Williamson's road. From 8. Goodbehere, re case Lyne v. Board. From W. S. Staite, on the same matter. From Qt. Luxf ord, giving prices for drain pipes. From Wairarapa County Council, re District Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, and asking for assistance in having an alteration made. From Treasury, stating that a sum of £216 9s 6d, being thirds due on Pohangina Special Settlement, had been remitted to the Board's account. From Secretary Wanganui Harbor Hoard, asking the Board to supervise certain works of opening up roads in the Harbor Board Block. Mr Templar "waited on the Board re cleaning a drain opposite his residence at Cheltenham, and was informed the work would be carried out hy a sur-face-man. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That H. Dunbar be requested to stop felling on the roadline joining his section, as the work is included in the contract for forming the road. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Williamson, That the^ Harbor Board he informed that this Board will be happy to undertake the work proposed, provided that the amount of the proposed expenditure be paid into this Board's account, prior to the work being commenced. - Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded hy Mr Williamson, That £2000 of the Pohangina loan be placed at fixed deposit in Bank of Australasia for six months. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by ' Mr Bruce, That tenders be called for the Zigzag road, to be in by the 30th June, and accepted by Mr Lucas with the Engineer. — Carried. Eesolved, That the Engineer be in- ( structed that in future surface-men only reueive 6s per day. i Eesolved, That Mr Lucas sign the < cheques at this meeting instead of Mr ; Taylor. Proposed by Mr Haythorne, sec- , onded by Mr Williamson, That ten- '■ ders be called for delivery of 600 yards of metal on the Kimbolton road within the Kimbolton ward, to be , opened and accepted by the Engineer with Mr Haythorne on the 30th June. —Carried. j Mr Williamson drew attention to ! the matter of overloading the timber [ waggons. It had, he stated, been mooted to apply to our local members to have some legislation on the matter, and he suggested that the other . local bodies in the district be asked to co-operate in the matter. ,Mr Lucas considered it would be a i step in the right direction. The matter dropped without any action being decided upon. Tenders were opened for cleaning tracks and making cutting in the Awahou-Pohangina Block, and the following were accepted— E. Cornish, _Sb. 2 line; R- Cornish, the Ferry and Main road. Accounts were passed for payment, and the Board adjourned.
