Education Board
The usual monthly meeting of the above board was held on Mouday last. Present — Messrs Carson, (chairman), Sanson, Bridge, Fry, and the Rev. J Ross. When the secretary read the cash : statement showing an available bal- j ance on the general account of £2487 j 10s lOd. The building account had ■' been overdrawn £63 13s lid, and j there were liabilities of £1720 9s 6d, making a total of £1784 3s sd. The | secretary stated that the above did not include anything for school furniture. The report of the executive was adopted. A report prepared by Mr Fry defining the boundaries of the new school districts of Kairauga, Pohangina, Linton, and Fitzherbert East, ; was read. Mr Sanson moved the adoption of the report, and Mr Bridge ; moved to hold over that portion re- | ferring to Fitzherbert East for one i month. The amendment was carried and the boundaries of Kairanga, Pohangina, and Linton were then adopted. Counter petitions were presented in respect to the site of the proposed school in the Fitzherbert district, and Mr Notman moved that, pending reconsideration of the question of erecting a school at Fitzherbert, no action be taken to give effect to the resolution passed in April until after the next meeting. — Seconded by Mr Bridge, and carried. Permission was granted to the school Committee at Ashhurst to let the School residence, the tenancy to be terminable at a month's notice. A resolution was passed giving authority to the Inspector to alter the date of the holidays in any case where they would interfere with the examinations. A letter was read from the Secretary of the Birmingham School Committee stating that negotiations were in progress for the transfer of the school site from the Government to the Board. It was decided to. apply to the Waste Lands Board for a site for a new school at Pohangina and plans and specifications were ordered to be prepared and tenders called for the next meeting. The school was ordered to be taken over as a Board school from the Ist April. Bunnythorpo. — From the Committee in reference to additions. It was pointed out that plans were being drawn out for this work. — Awahuri.— Applications for^repairs to residence, and also to the fence between the residence and the school, and to the floor of the porch.— Left to Mr Sanson to inspect the residence and j porch, with power to act. Stanway.— Application for requisites. — Granted. Pohangina. — Letter from J. R. Anderson, with reference to school site. Resolved, That the Board apply to the Waste Lands Board for eight acres for a school site on the reserve near the river. Several applications for repairs etc., were dealt with and the Board adjourned.
