A case of true love Which has not run very smoothly has lately occurred in Wellington. A young gentleman of fashion has been staying here for. some time, and has been payiug his addresses to a highly respectable young lady. This youth, who belongs to a very old and well-kn«wn family at Home, is one of that class known as' remittance men. He professed himself deeply enamoured of the young lady, to whom he became engaged, aud arrangements had been made for the wedding to take place on Monday last. So late as Saturday night the young man was in a well-known retail establishment in one of the leading thoroughfares buying articles for the wedding. But when Sunday's bells were ringing for church the young man had evidently altered his mind, for a Homeward bound steamer is now carrying the false and fickle one en route for his ancestral home, while the cruelly- jilted young lady is left to mourn the deceitfulness of men. — N.Z.
