Mr Macarthur's 811 l
The following is the most important clause in Mr Macarthur's Hospital and Charitable Aid Act, 1885, Amendment Act, 1888:— "From and after the third day of September, in the year one thousand eight hundred and eighty eight, the Counties of Oroua and Manawatu, including all boroughs therein, shall cease to be included within the Hospital District of Wanganui, and shall from the said date, be constituted a hospital district under the said Act, under the name of the District of Manawatu. This section shall only take effect in case the Governor shall, by Order in Council, declare the same to be in operation. And no such order shall be issued except the Governor shall, not later than fifteen days previous to the thirtieth day of September, receive from each of the local contributing authorities in the District of Wanganui which are located within the aforesaid counties including the boroughs therein, a resolution affirming the desirability of bringing the said section into operation." All endowments originally set aside for the Wangamri Hospital are still to be retained by that institution.
