Band of Hope Meeting
[CoMMUNiCATED.] There was a full .house at the last meeting of the above on Wednesday evening. The President, the Her. Walter Harris, was in charge. . The meeting having been opened with praise and prayer, Mr George dark, an old temperance, worker from Wellington, was called upon to open the programme, which- he did in proper style, by giving a short practical address, .and- a very instructive and amusing reading entitled " How Betsy and I fell out and made it up again." This gentleman, will always - be., welcome on our platform, Miss, Pep© and Miss Parr neatt favored the audience with a duet, ''Beautiful Stream," which was well received. The Secretary then gave a recitation, " The two glasses." The President now gave a very difficult piece in a masterly manner entitled "Tke Negro Sermon," his Negro-English being effective and amusing. The Society is to be congratulated in their first and second Presidents, being not merely ornamental figure heads,' but really efficient workers in the ranks. Mr J. C. Bichardson again favored us with his presence, and concluded a trarm address with a seasonable recitation,, " Lost for want of a word." A promising young beginner, Missey Fidler r next gave in good style, for one soyoung, a poem the concluding line of each stanza of which ran—" We, loved the soldiers, mother and I." |Mrs Richardson and Missey Watts, who plays the harmonium well,, gave as a duet a beautiful selection from Sankey's collection. It is proposed to encourage the boys and girls to take more interest in the work ..by giving a prize, j such as. a valuable book, to the best reader and reciter.
