Band of Hope Meeting
[CoJOtUNIOATED.J Notwithstanding the unfavorable nature of the weather, there was a fair attendance at the above on Tuesday evening. At the opening Mr J. 0. Thompson called for a vote of thanks to Mr and Miss Olphert for their valuable services to the society during their residence in Feilding, te be forwarded by the Secretary. This was seconded by Mr Pawson, and carried by acclamation. The Secretary then called upon the new President, the Eev. W. Harris, to take charge of the meeting. After singing and prayer the President gave a short address on the great importance of this and similar organisations for the advance of the temperance cause. The Secretary gave a reading, "A Chinaman's version of the Prodigal Son." Mr Frederiokson gave an address on manufactures in general, giving prominent place to drunkard making. Mr C. Wickham gave an interesting reading, contrasting the homes of drunkenness and homes of sobriety.Jwhich was well received. Mrs Richardson followed with a brief and beautiful recitation entitled " Faith and Prayer." Afterwards she gave a timely address on the danger of alcoholic patent medicines. Mr Worsfold again kindly came forward with a recitation called " The Drunkard's Grave." Mrs Bichardson presided at the harmonium. The Society has decided to make a fresh start under its new, President. Several volunteers promised help at the next meeting, to be held a month hence.
