A messenger from Te Kooti arrived in Gisborne to day, and states that Te Kooti is anxious to visit Poverty Say, but will not come if the _ Government object. He also says he is afraid of a disturbance and would run away. Matui te Kooti, the preacher, will visit here at the opening of the house built forTe Kooti's reception, and will probably be aecompaniod by 500 Waikatos and ether Natives. Palmebston, This Day. A meeting of ex-Imperial Soldiers, interested in land claims, was held last evening, when the toliowing resolution was passed. " That a petition be presented to the House praying for a rehearing of their claims by an independent tribunal, or other final settlement as justice demands. Gbbymotjth, November 4. It is claimed on behalf of the Education Board shat fcbere are two hundred children in this district six years of age ! which means a loss of LBOO a year. This, with the loss of 5s capitation on 1500 children brings the amount the Education Board will be deprived of «p to LI 150 per annum, and it is contended that the Board cannot meet its requirements as it is.
