Bovren will continue to hold the position of Governor of Honjj Kong for a further period of two years. Mr McDermot's corn and hay stacks were burned down on the 14th March. They were insured in the South British for £150 a cheque for which sum was handed over yesterday by Mr Hill the local agent. { The Napeir Chamber of Commerce has arrived at the conclusion that the Minister for Public Works is not the ruling , power at the head of the Railway Department. It has taken five years for that sapient body to make this discovery. The Post and Telegraph Office will not be opened on Good Friday. Mass will be held, in St. Bridget's Chorch on Sunday next (Easter Sunday) at 8 o'clock. I Captain Edwin telegraphs to-day. — j Telegrams to' expect a very cold and frosty night have been sent to all places. On Easier Monday the Telegraph Office will bt> open from U to 10 a.na only The Post Office will be open for the delivery of letters from 9to 10 a.m and 7 to 8 p.m. There has been quite a plethora of political .speeches during the current week, including Mr Pisher, at Wellington ; Mr Connolly, at Picton; Mr Ballanee, at Wanganui ; Sir Julius Yogel, at Christchurch ; and Mr Ormond, at Napier. Votes of thanks and confidence were .passed in each case. The facilities offered by the Mauawatu Railway Company to reach Wellington at a very moderate outlay are certainly being taken advantage of by many residents of districts adjacent to the line. As a matter of health the outing is enjoyable through the pleasant railway trip to the Empire City, while as to material and economical advantages these only want to be more widely known to be thoroughly appreciated.
