Primitive Methodist Bazaar
The above was opened yesterday afternoon in the Temperance Hall at 2 o'clock ' punctually. The attendance was not great, but among others present we noticed Mrs Macarthur and Mr Macarthur, M.H.8., and Miss E; Goodbehere. The Rev. Mr Clark introduced the Mayor, Mr Goodbehere, with a few appropriate remarks. The Mayor then said he had experienced great pleasure in acceding to the request of the Committee to open the Bazaar. He hoped it would prove a success. The ladies deserved groat credit for the excellence of the articles proyided as well as the tasteful arrangements of the stalls. He then declared the Bazaar duly opaned. The Hall was very nicely decorated with ferns and evergreens, the whole spectacle beiug cheerful and attractive. ' The Art Gallery was a portion of the Hall divided off by dense screens to guard against the peering glauces of the too > curious who might desire to see without i paying. Of tho pictures themselves we cannot speak too highly, aud can only remark that m this there is the nucleus of tho most remarkable Art Collection ever seen in this world. The following ladies presided at the stalls — Mesdames Clark, Thompson, Eiciiardson, Donkin. and Brown ; Madamoiselles Crabb, Pope, Kennedy, Brown, and Parr. The Feilding Brass Band has consented to be present ■at the Bazaar agaiu this ovening. The promenade concert will be continued with attractive additions. The committee are pleased to report considerable success in disposing of their goods last evening. The large and varied stock still on hand will be sold at great reductions, as all must be cleared out this evening. The art gallery was a great success.
