Manchester Rifles
The Manchester Rifles paraded last night for Government inspection in the Public Hall. There was a full attendance of officers, non-cemmissioiiAd j officers, and men, the whole of the 1 latter being accounted for, After the customary drill candidates for the rank of corporal were called to the front. Volunteers Hensen and Chamberlain responded, and each in turn put the men through the manual exercise. The officers, who were the judges, de- ! dared the competitors were equal. As volunteer Hensen was the older member of the two he was appointed Corporal, and volunteer Chamberlain' Lance-Corporal. The balance sheet ' was read and adopted. A meeting of the council will be held at the E. and C.A. Corporation office at 8 o'clock this evening.
