Officers of the Servian army, on furlough, have been summoned to report for duty. j It is rumoured that Sir William Robm'| son, now Governor of Trinadad, is to be transferred to Hongkong, and that Sir F. Napier Brome is to succeed Sir F. A. Weld in the Straits Settlements. The Orient Company are willing to accept an eight years' contract for con* veying mails at a fixed subsidy on the basis of their original demand. The P. and O. Company will agree to a contract for any times between 7 and 10 years', provided that the subsidy is computed en a sliding scale on the basis of the last offer. Both Companies stipulate that the steamers shall be placed on an equality with foreigners in respect to the payment of port and light dues. The amount awarded to the Orient. Company im the arbitration case in respect to the sinking ot the Austral is £122,000, including interests and costs, which are equal to the deductions made by the arbitrator in the original claim. The Lord Mayor's Committee has decided to apportion the subscriptions to th« Queen's Jubilee Fund as follows :— 30 per cent, to the British Museum, and 70 per cent, to the Imperial Institute. The Reichstag has been summoned to meet on the 3rd of March. Prince Alexander, of Battenburg, exPnnce of Bulgaria, who recently returned to Darmstadt, is seriously ill with typhod fever. He now lies in an insensible condition.
