fPRB UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) \ Wanganiti. February 11. The charge against Dr Connolly for alleged criminal assault on Mrs Pope was resumed this morning. Mrs Pop© was called and cross-examined as to a conversation acknowledged to hare been had with a- neighbour. She acknowledged to having said that her husband objected to her seeing Dr Connolly by herself, but denied that she had said that if he knew she had seen the doctor he would be arrested, or words to that effect. The evidence of Drs Earle and Tripe went to show that traces of spermatazoa were found in the linen microscopically tested by them, but they could not tell whether they were a day or a weekold. They agreed that the condition of the woman was likely to conduce to hysteria. This concluded the ease for the prosecution. The court adjourned at S?p.ih. Later. The hearing of the charge against Dr Connolly occupied the Court all day. Upon the case, for the prosecution being closed, the Bench intimated that they considered a prima facie case had been made out that required answering. Two female witnesses for the defence were then called, after which counsel addressed the court oh' behalf of the accused, and the Bench, after an hour's retirement, returned into court and said that they had decided to dismiss the' charge. The accused was then discharged.
