Education Board

The usual monthly meeting of the above body was held on Tuesday. Present : Messrs W. H. Watt (chairman), Sanson, Bridge, Baker, Bate, Stevens, Fry, Carson, and Boss.

Appointments Committee. — Resolved that advertisements be inserted for a head teacher at Ashhurst.

Inspection. — Mr Fry moved, That the secretary be instructed to apply to the Education Department for an increase of the grant allowed for inspection to enable the board to appoint an assistant inspector. — Seconded by Mr Carson, and carried.

It was resolved, That the Board considered the head master of the boys school Wanganul did not exceed his duty in punishing Ernest Nixon.

Feilding. — Mr Saxon wrote asking that as he had five children of school age and two neighbours the same, an aided school should be established. They would provide a building and lodgings for a teacher. — Resolved that fuller information be obtained on the subject.

Halcombe. — Applicatiou for grant for painting part of inside of building and for oven in residence. — Resolved to supply the oven, and hold the other matter over.

Ashurst. — Letter from Mr Q-ower re his leaving, and explaining 1 the causes. — Letter received, and certificate ordered to be issued.

Retiring Members. — It was announced that the term of office of Messrs Watt, Bridge, and Bate expired on the 3 1st December last, and it was resolved, That nominations for the vacanoies be received, at the Board's office up to the 26th of February next. — Chronicle. :
