Faith Healing
A DISGEACEFUL SCENE. (PICE UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Invkkc.ihgill, January 10. The Eev. Gordon, of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church delivered a sermon on Sunday night on " Faithhealing ; what is it ?" with reference to the Eev Mr Dowie, of Melbourne now on a faith-healing mission here. Mr Gordon asserted his belief that Mr Dowie's so-called healing power was simply animal magnetism; that Mr Dowie's arguments were blasphemous ; and expressed his opinion that Mr Dowie's so-called mission was not free from suspicion of selfishness. To-night, Mr Dowie announced that he would reply to Mr Gordon. The Wesleyan Church was crowded, and the proceedings were of a very lively order, the rev gentleman being unguarded in his references to those who interjected remarks or asked questions. One of the audience, who said that Mr Dowie's mode of procedure was all bounce, was characterised as " lying scoundrel." Another gentleman, who asked Mr Dowie when he was going to the Hospital to heal the sick there, was ordered out of the Church. No cures effected by Dowie's agency here have yet been made public.
