Determined Suicide
I A man named Robert Vile com*
mitted suicide yesterday at Halcombe by cutting his throat. It is generally understood that melancholia was the cause. It appears ; that before Vile left England he i was engaged to be married to a young woman: On his arrival in the colony he built a house, for the reception of his expected bride, by raising; money en his land by means of a mortgage. He sent home the neces- ; sary passage money for her, but she did not keep tryst, for she had already married another man. The i deceased took to drink as a means ofconsolation, but after a time discontinued the practice, and joined the/g Primitive Methodist body, of which/f he became a useful and enthusiastic member. His mental condition was such that for some months he was confined in the Lunatic Asylum, from whence ho was discharged cured. For some time lately he had caused considerable anxiety to his friends, and little surprise was expressed when it was learned that he had terminated his existence.
