Two young Indies saved the life of a little girl who fell into a lake in the Recreation Ground on Saturday.: The little girl, about six years old, was playing on the springboard near the bathingdouse, and fell off into deep water. Miss Thompson, daughter of the Collector «f Customs, and Miss Todd, her cousin, who were bathing near at hand, saw the accident, and being expert swimmers, swam to where the child was strugaling, seizing it as it was going down the third time. Miss Thompson supported the ohild till Miss Todd reached her, and the two managed to bring the child ashore. Miss Thompson is only fourteen years of age and Miss Todd is about seventeen. The water where the child fell in is about twenty feet deep. Dunedin, December 6. An unusual point came up at the Kesident Magistrate's Court to-day in a claim of £100, money L'nt. The plain* tiff did not pay his Court fees, and stated that he bad given all his money to his solicitor. The Magistrate said that the case could not go on till the fees were paid. The plaintiff's solicitor urges that it w:is never intended to deprived anyone of justice because he was unable to pay the fees, but the Magistrate said that section 127 was very explicit, and the case was uot proceeded with. James Chew, of A tcheson, Kansas. The Eadical Eeform League support Farnali for Waitemata, and passed a resolution callinsr on the Government to limit appointments, and to stop pavmimt of members of the Legislative Council. The Minister for Public Works has expressed an opinion that the fire at th«> Dunedin goods sited was the result of incendiarism, and it is probable that the Cabinet will be asked to give a free pardon to the accomplices of the person or persons connected with its destruction. At the Supreme Court criminal sessions to d.iy the Chief Justice in charging the grand jury said the charges were more numerous th;in on previous occasions He thought provision should be iia:ide for licensing out boys of tender years convicted of offences without showing criminal tendencies. t
