A pratieal digger estimates the population on the field at 5000: souls. Many lucky miners are reticent as to their sucdess. It is. i generally believed that one party of four men have got £1400 worth of > gold! since the field was opened, while 1 another party at Brady's Gully are reported to have made £400. Another [ informant says he was shown two , jam tins full of gold speciments. The price paid for the gold is £3 17& 6d per ounce, which is low considering the good quality. The Government [ geologist has discovered au old drift, . which he thinks is auriferous. Evt perienced men are greatly pleased t with the appearance of the drift, and • say it resembles country from which ' good results have been obtained by ' sinking in other tolonies.
