The Canterbury Press remarks :-Dr W. L. Buller lias attained the summit of his ambition, and has become Sir Walter Buller, K.C.M.G. As we are rather inclined to be of Mr Henry Labouchere's opinion that it is as cruel to refuse a title to a snob who wants it as to refuse a thistle to a hungry doukey, we do not regret the bestowal of this honour.
Athletic sports are becming a matter ol serious moment in the Australian colonies, in fact, more money is given away in prizes than at many of the race meetings. As one instance, we quote the following to be held at Moore Park, Sydney, on the 18th December: -Ist prize, 300 guineas and gold chronograph; 2nd prize, 100 guineas and nilver chronograph ; 3rd prize, 60 guineas and pair running shoes ; 4th prize, 40 guineas and a pair ol running shoes.
