[hEUTEHS TELEGBAMS.I Stdnbt, September 11. The Kosehill Racing Cub at Sydney have announced a Handicap Race tor £5000, to come off during the Centenary celebration. The football match between Geelong and South Melbourne on Saturday last excited enormous interest, over 30,000 spectators being on the ground. Geelong won easily, and is now premier club of the colony. The Postmaster-General has concluded arrangements whereby the remit of the Melbourne and Caulfield Cups eon be receired by any person resident in the colony by payment of 6d en the merning of the race. A dastardly attempt to wreck a train on the Melbourne and Geelong line was made early on Saturday morning. A ganger engaged in surveying the line discovered that the fish-plates of one of the rails had been tampered with, and an attempt had been made to remove a rail just at the points where the lino crossed a deep culver . There is no doubt tU at if this had not been discovered there wonld have been a disastrous accident. The police are activelj endeavouring to trace the culprits.
