A party of fifteen men has been got together in Christchurch for the purpose of proceeding to the Red Hill mineral district in the s.s. Hineinoa. The leader is Mr Joseph Gibbs, who has had a good deal ot goldfield experience. Napieb, September 10. The Borough Council met this afternoon and decided to appeal against the decision of the Resident Magistrate re the processions By-law. If his decision be correct, nearly all the bye-laws, not only of Napier, but of most of the boroughs in the colony, are invalid. The local agent of the L. and M. Agency Company has issued a some what warm reply to Messrs Hoadley and Co's circular, his text being that "Competition is the soul of business." The wordy war is causing much amusement in a few commercial and pastoral circles. Auckland. September 10. A Crimean Veteran's dinner was held la«t evening. Mr A. Cairn*, formerly ©f H.M.S. Hastings presided. VlrE-lward Barngeous responded to the toast of ''Flag of Prance," bein^ one of the five hundred of the Imperial Guard sent to Crimea.
