The steamship Sixth (?) from Port Darwin, shipped 79, and the steamship Menmuir, from the same port, brings 186 return diggers frem Kimberiey district.
Sydney Augvst 29.
Tattersall's Club spring race meeting took place yesterday. The principal event, the Spring Handicap wan won by Eosebug; Elliagton, 2; Bravo, 3. Twentynine horses started for the race, of which four fell. On* of (he jockeys, jl. O'Brien, was injured, bat is now reported pro* stressing favourably. The steamship Wakatipn, which left on Thursday last for Wellington, took 1,500 oases of kerosene and 160 tons of general oarg* discharged from the ship Chasca.
Mklboubnb, August 26. A telegram published in the Argus to* day, from Auckland, states that the New Zealand Government is opposed to any arrangement regarding the cable between Australia and New Zealand, except that originally proponed — namely, a renewal of the subsidy for five years.
