FEILDINO V. FOXTON.

The Feilding and Foxtom team* met at Foxton laat Saturday, and for the first time this season the former sustained a defeat, being beaten -by ; a goal and a try* (7 Points) to nil. This makes Foxton and Feildin g equal for the Cup, each having iron three matches. The deciding match will probably be played at Palmerston iit> about three weeks time. Play commenced about quarter past two, Foxton having the advantage of the wincl. . For the first few minutes the play was chiefly within the Foxton twenty-' * fire, but their forwards svon carried, ., it down, proving too strong for tie Feildlng men in most of the scrimmaV ges. After about twenty minutes play C. Robinson scoured the ball and dashed across the line close to touch, scoring the first try for Foxion.. The " kick was taken by Biehop, but the angle proved too difficult. From this to half time no further score was made, and when ends were changed the Feilding men were hopeful that with the wind in their favor they would at least wipe off that score-, but it was not to be. After a quarter of an hour's play, Tuera, by a splendid run, carried the ball into the Feilding twenty-five, and Gregson securing it from the scrimmage, ence more crossed the line. Jewell took the kick/ and placed a gaol, increasing the score to 7 points. From this all the play was in neutral territory. The FeUding men made some good rushes, but were unable to reach the desired?, spot. I think their defeat may b» attributed to the strength of the epa'ng forwards. This wis particu- / noticeable when the scrimmages were at all packed — the Foxton men breaking^ right through and getting on the bail before the Feilding backs could get away. With a full team I think the result would have been different. It is hoped all the ■■ men will go into thorough practice for the | deciding match, which is sure to be a y * tough game. .
