Bankruptcy Court
(Before Judge Bawson.)
Wanoanui August 25.
The case of Edward Ranger -was gone into : — W. Henderson, of Marton sworn, was examined as follows by D.0.A. : Am a miller at Marton ; knew the debtor ; he oame to see me in March last ; he owed me for a ton of flour, and he wanted to get more ; we had a long conversation. I said I would like to know his circumstances before I let him have any more flour ; asked him the amount of his debts, and be gave me a list amounting to about £50, saying that was all he owed ; thought I might trust him with another ton, and so lei him it. He would not have got it had I known he was much in debt ; was surprised to see the list of his debts when published ; am sure he represented that his debts were under £50, and on this representation I let him have the ton of flour.— The D.O.A, submitted that the debtor had made false pretences to Mr Henderson. — Mr Cuff on oehalf of debtor, asked that his Honor would be as lenient as possible, as the debtor had a wife and three children and had just got work, — His Honor thought he should make an example of the debtor. — The D.O,A. did not press for a heavy penalty, — Sentenced to seven days' imprisonment, without hard labour.
