A man named Westway in the employ of Mr John Grigg, of Lomgbeach, was cleaning out cattle jards, when the horse boited, and Westway was kaocked down, and the scoop passed over him. He died after a few hours from rupture of the bowels.

James Mitchell, alias McKenzie, alias Masser, charged wifh the jewellery robbury at Freeman's is remanded for a week.
The steamer Waihi, bound from Blenheim to Wellington, and. which had all the blades stripped from her propeller when crossing toe Wairau bar, arrived safely at Mana Island, where she will be beached and new blades attaohed.
An Ord r ia Council has beon issued defining the height of policemen to be fire feet nine inches. T'bey are only to be reoruited from the permanent military force. Fre«h regulations for the Volunteer force will be distributed for com* nient by the various corps. Country corps will have to attend 18 parades in future, and garrison corps 18, camps to count two.
