Gladstone has announced that he intends to retain the leadership of the Liberal party, but states that the exertions at the recent elections so affected him that he will require to seek temporary repose. ' Farnell has been re-elected leader of the Home Rule party in the House of Commonß. The members of the party hare decided to strenuously oppose any scheme that might be proposed by the New Ministry, which offered a smaller measure of autonomy to Ireland than that offered by Gladstone.
