lie our issue of March 18th we wrote anont Globe Trotters. — " Thus it is that authors of world-wide fame, like Trollopk and Froudb, who come among us ' clothed and in their right mind' go Home and write books about the countries they havo visited, teem* ing with errors, paiii 1 ties and th« grossest libels upon those who have deserved better treatment at their hands." We concluded the article by saying — v Colonists whose amour propre is wounded by these ' authors of repute* should bear in mind that they have only themselves to blame from the lavish hospitality they bestow upon them (the Globe Trotters) in season and out of season." As a confirmation of the opinions then oxpressed, we find that the Standard in London has published a most offensive and iibelous article on New Zealand and her people, founded entirely on the min-statements made by Mr Froudk in " Oceaua." A letter is also published in a Wellington contemporary from a gentleman in Australia, who shows that Mr Fuoude was capable of re • producing information gleaned during private conversations, in a most garbled and obnoxious form, giving great offence to, and hurting the finest feelings of those who had been kindest to him. In the future colonists who receive these professional " story tellers" will be careful in what they say in their presence, in order te avoid wilful misrepresentation and future painj
