The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, JUNE 26, 1886. Makino Cheese Factory

The second annual meeting of the above will he held in the schoolroom, Makino, on Wednesday next to receive the report ef the directors, with a balance sheet showing the affairs of the company. The election of three directors will alee be held. As the factory when in the hands of a practical man who thoroughly understood his business was made to pay remarkably well, we may expect that the new directory will profit by the example given by hip 1 , and endeavour to work it with similar results. The snares and pitfalls which surrounded the directors in the past have now been either removed altogether, or are so well known that they may be avoided. They have a most excellent plant all of which is in good working order. The premises aro exceptionally good, and lie in the centre of the best dairy farming district in the colony according to Mr Bowron, the expert sent by the Government to examine and report in the locality. An abundant supply of milk is certain during the season, and a never failing market for the cheese is to be found in Australia. The oheese made by Mr Davis, when he worked the factory, was of a superior class, and pronounced by competent judges to be equal to any produced in Canterbury. We know that because a private person can make an enterprise pay, it does not at all follow that a company can do likewise. The rulo is the reverse. But still cheese factories hare been made to pay, and we see no reason why the Makino factory should not. The secret of success lies in employing only such persons as are practical workman, persons who know the difference between skim milk and fresh milk, and who will have the moral courage to refuse the adulterated article when attempted to be foisted on their employers by dishonest milksellers. There is good money to be made out of the Makino factory, but to do so will require good management. We therefore trust jthe shareholders will exercise a wise discretion in electing new directors.
