The Gisborne Murder Case

The charge of murder against William How land, commenced on Tuesday, was concluded jesterday, when the accused was committed for trial Th« evidence showed (hat the deceased and accused quarrelled over a partnership contract tne night previous to the murder. Early next morning a Maori heard the report of a gun, and accused came to him and said the European wan mad, and had been shooting at him. The native saw a man come out of the whare all bleeding, and go a way in the direction of an hotel. Accused reported the affair to the police, and on inquiring they arrested him. Deceased, shortly before he died, swore on o»th th.it he was stirring porridge for breakfast, when the aecused shot him through the breast. The medical evidence showed deceased to be a quiet, sober, and industrous man, with no sign of tmnial delusion. His wife was insured for £400. and he had £200 on deposit, which lie left to his uioiiier, who is in England.
