An entertainment was held : in thtf - Awahun School last Friday evening, by a company of amateurs, the Charing Cross ■"; Christy Minstrels. It was given oh behalf of a poor woman to enable her to rejoin her husband, who is at work at a distance. There was but little notice, so the attendance, while fairly good, was not': so large as it might otherwise have been. When the curtain rose it disclosed six or ' eight performers with black faces, ranged •' in a semicircle in the usual -style of aU ,■ Christy Mnistrel entertainments. Tha . first part consisted of songs, which were; very well rendered by the respective performers, and concluded with a general;, dance by the whole company with tambourines, &c, to the song" Susan will b© - there." We may here notice the.absence of any approach to coarseness during the whole of the proceedings, by, which Borne C similar entertainments have been so defaced as to make many people reluctant " ; to attend another. The second part chiefly consisted of dances, in which the perform- : era appeared in costume. There was a.silver shoe' dance by Messrs J. Randall . and Buckston, sand jig by Mr Murray, song and dance " Pretty as a Peachy oj V Messrs H. Eandall and Lonsdale, clog dance Mr Eeid. The last part consisted of a farce called " Photograph/ depicting the miseries of a photographer, who had more bills to meet than customers to serve. . The audience showed their appreciation"' of the entertainment by well-sustained applause and by several encores.
