« MARTON RACES. Now that the weights have been declared for the Marton Jockey Club Hack Race Meeting, the owners of nags will be busy putting on the finishing touch, as the races are drawing nigh. Ido not hold altogether with the handicapper's decisions. However, there was not much time between the nominations and declaring of weights. First comes the Open Hurdles. — Aroha and Anarora list up, and Lady Athol 9st, there being; 2st in weight between these horses. I would take Lady Athol or Gazelle to place the winner. The District Hurdles. — Revoke 9st, Lady Athol 9st 4lbs. There should be a good finish. Now comes the Flying Handicap. — Fernflats has a good turn of foot, but with top weight, lOst, his no say in this race. My Dream, 9st 71bs, is well in this, but there being some fresh blood it is hard to say which will pass the post first. The Open Handicap, two miles. — My Dream, 9st 6lbs, holds this race safe, as she won the Upper Tutaenui Handicap last year, with 9st Slbs The Advocate, commenting on her win, said it was an exercise canter for her. Lady Florence also started for the above event with 9st up, and was not placed ; also for the Maiden and Consolation, but was not placed. Why the handicapper should put lOst 31 D on Lady Florence and only 9st 61b on My Dream I cannot conceive, as Lady Florence has never won a race on the flat up to the time of entry. Fernflats and My Dream, with the same weight, are about a match, but in this event Fernflats carries Ist 31b over My Dream. Torroi.
