From our own Correspondent.
A public meeting was held heae last Thursday evening for the purpose of dispensing with the services of the Banger. There were about 25 persons present. Mr Llewellyn was voted to the chair. The chairman briefly explained the object of the meeting, and called upon Mr Foot to move the following resolution. I Mr Foot then moved the following resolution — "That this meeting disapproves of the action of the Board in continuing the services of the Banger in Halcombe, and that a deputation j consisting of the mover and Mr F. Marsh wait upon the Board, asking them to forego the appointment of Banger ; and in the event of no notice being taken by the Board, that a petition bt sent around for the purpose of compelling the members to resign their seats." — Seconded by Mr F. j Marsh. The chairman, before putting the motion to the meeting, asked if anyone wished to say anything for or against it. Mr Lacey rose, and gave the meeting a few wrinkles as to the legality or otherwise of the past action of the Banger in impounding cattle before sunrise or after sunset. The motion being put to the meeting it was declared carried. The meeting then adjourned.
