THE GOVERNOR AT PALMERSTON.
[pee united press association.] Palmebston Nohth, This Day. The Governor arrived at 2*30 p.m. yesterday. In spite of the bad weather about 2000 people assembled at the railway station. The Mayor being absent through illness. The address was presented by Mr Snelson, chairman of the Road Board. His Excellency, in responding, expressed his gratification at the loyal reception, and
congratulated the district on the advance ma de. A procession was formed consisting of members of the local bodies, friendly societies, andvolun-; teers, the latter forming a guard of honor, and proceeded to.; the -Bank Chambers where luncheon wasspread. In responding to the toast of "our guest," the Governor, alluded to the depression which he attributed to the coleny having gone too fast? He thought the gradual introduction of more population to help to tfear the burdens, would make it pass s away. His Excellency left for Te Mktiai as the guest of Messrs EusseU BrSlrr -ssoiT
