Manchester Road Board
A meeting of the above washeld 6n Saturday last. Present — Mr Macarthur (chairman), Messrs Bailey, and Lethbridge. The following correspondence was read and disposed of :— Wm Gummings calling attention to the drain made by the Board from --Use main road into his land, without providing an outlet. — Eesolved, That the engineer report on this matter when he reports on the Eaukawa creek. Prom Messrs Bowerbank and Gardiner, of Ashhurst, applying to" have the bush felling on the road from Ashhurst-Bunnythorpe road to section 43. — Eesolved, That the engineer report on this. •:■■■ From D. L. Smith, manager. for J. Manson, applying for leave to fall part of the Valley road in the Manchester Block at the usual rate.— Eesolved, That the Board will consent; to allow this bush to be felled on the Board's usual terms, if Mr Smith, on behalf of Mr Manson, will keep as good a track through the fallen bush as now exists through the standing bush. From C. Tarrant stating that he had beeu in possession of section No. 22 since August last, and that he would pay rates from that date. — Eesolved, That arrears must be paid,, or tho Board will proceed against the land for the rates. Buyer and seller must arrange among themselves. From F. W. Funnell, re bush falling on Bunnythorpe- Ashhurst road.— Eesolved, That the engineer report to next meeting. From Eiley, of Halcombe, applying for a slaughter license. — Eesolved, That the application be granted.
Letter from Under Secretary for Public Works, re a petition front certain residents and ratepayers in the Manawatu Highway district, re formation of a portion of a road on the sonth side of the Manawatu river frqtn the Palmerston bridge to the Gorge road, and requesting the Board ib show cause why the Governor shbtild not in this case, exercise the powers conferred upon him by section 185 [oi the Counties Act 1876. The chairman read a letter written by him dated the 29th of September, in which he showed the position of the Board, and sufficient cause why the Governor should not interfere. The letter was approved by the Boards From George Wheeler calling-.{at-tention to the state of a culvert across the Makino road. — The necessary work had been done before the letter wes received. . ;- From J. Herbert Hankins solicitor re Adsett v Board. — This matter 'was settled by a cheque being handed" to Mr Adsett. From George J. Boddy asking the Board to put his name on the rate roll, instead of Hubert Johnson — Request granted. , ' tL Tender of John Turner to act ai district ranger was received and do? dined. • ■ 3 Provincial auditor enclosing balance sheet of the Board duly passed. Accounts amounting to £850 were passed and ordered to be paid. The meeting then adjourned.
