Reception of the Governor at Marton
The reception of the Gevernor by the MartoQ people passed «£E most successfully yesterday. A procession was formed at the station and proceeded t> town in the following order: — Rangitikei Mounted Rifles, Captain Stevens ; his Excellency the Governor aad Mr Arktrright, the Marton Rojal Rifles under Lieut. Sutcliffe, Marion Fire Brigade under (Japtain Gibbons, and friendly societies. Opponite the White Hart Hotel, the procession halted, aad the Goreraor's carriage stopped immediately underneHth a triumphnl arch Here a speech was made by Mr Bruce, M.H.R.. and an address from the corporation rend by the Mayor, Mr L. Janes. His Excellency alluded to the great pleasure he felt at the enthutiastio and unexpected welcome accorded him The speech met with great applause. Ihe carriage with the Governor was driven towards Mr Arkwright's residence at Oyerton. The town was gaily decorate \ nnd the day universally observed as a holiday.
