Large Fire at Dunedin

PEE UNITED PBESB ASSOCIATION. Dunedin, October 7At about 6 o'clock this morning a most destructive fire was discovered raging Jin the warehouse of Messrs Ferguson and Mitchell, stationers, printers, &c. Owing to the prompt action of the Eire Brigade, the flames were subdued speedily, but not before the damage to the extent of thousands was done — the whole of the mechanical, composing, and part of the lithographic departments were destroyed. The building and stock is insured for £22,500, the amount being distributed over most of the local offices. The fire seems to have originated near a gas engine, which was used as a motive power for printing machinery, but in which way it has not been discovered.
