Manchester Road Board
A monthly meeting of this Board was held at its office on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs Bailey (in the chair), Linton, Jones, Whibley and Lethbridge. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : — Treasury Department, re rates on Native lands for 1884-5; Mr W, Gk Leigh, re change of names on rate roll ; Mr Blaskett, asking permission to fell bush on a road line , Mr Gordon Forlong, re an application for road line; Mr Macarthur, chairman* asking leave of absence for balance of Parliamentary session ; Mr Hutchison, solicitor, Wanganui, re the case Adsett y the Board ; Mr J. Jefferies, Bunnythorpe, asking permission to fell bush on road line ; Messrs Moorehouse, Edwards and Cutten, repudiating liability to pay rates; Bunnythorpe settlers and others, a petition praying that the road from Bunnythorpe to Oroua river be declared, a boundary road; Messrs Mooxehouse, Edwards and Cutten, disclaiming ownership of any property in the district; Mr Thomas Cook, and a number of Maoris asking the Board to repair the road near Kakariki station ; District Railway manager re the drain by the side of the line at Bunnythorpe and the matter of crossings in same locality ; Mr "W. Cummings, calling attention to the condition of the Makara road ; Property Tax Department re rates on Crown Lands ; Mr Macarthur, Wellington, telegram, re grant for Gorge bridge; Treasury office, re debentures under the R. and B.C. Act ; District Bailway manager, re gravel from reserve at Bunnythorpe ; Mr Hankins, solicitor, re the the bill of costs in the case of Adsett v the Board ; Commissioner of Crowa lands re rates; Mr J. H. Taylor, application for slaughtering licence; Mr W. Leigh, re rates: Messrs Adsett and Simpson re change of names on rate roll.
Eesolved, That Mr Dixon he wxftten to asking if he is willing to have his name on rate roll instead of Messrs Moorhouse, Edwards and Outten as owners of section C. 51. '■ ■ ■
Leave of absence for remainder of Parliamentary session was"granted to Mr Macarthur.
Resolved, That a culvert be put in the road near Mr Hanlon's place at Ashurst, and the road metalled' about two chains. . '
Resolved, That the road he cleared for 35 chains, and a bridge put in on Reid's line.
The application of Mr JyH. Taylor for a slaughtering licence on section 49 Makino xoad was granted. ±
Resolved, That the clerk be instructed to forward Mr Hutchison's letter to the Board's solioitor. . i
Permission was granted to Messrs Jeffories and Blaskett, to fell bush on road lines adjoining their respective sections on the usual terms.
The clerk was instructed to write to Messrs Cook and others at Kakariki, informing them that the^ Board has no funds at present to do the work, but will fence the part, washed away to prevent accident.
The clerk was instructed to transfer the names on rate roll from Mr Adsett to Mr Neilson as requested. The clerk was instructed to write to Mr .Leigh informing him that the Board requires an. application signed by Mr Flyger as well as himself before they can make the transfer he wishes.
The clerk was instructed to report to the Board at its next meeting the condition of the creek Leading to Raukawa,
The clerk was instructed to write to Mr Forlong informing him that the Board has no funds available for the work he wishes done.
The clerk was also instructed to write to the Treasury Department that the Board is doing all in its power to collect the rates, and as soon as this is done the amount of debentures will be forwarded. //' ;

Mr Bailey was appointed treasure* for the present meeting. After passing accounts to the sum of £205 for payment the Board ad' journed. ____
