This match was played on ike Feilding ground last Saturday afternoon and after a well contested game resulted in favor of the local team by a goal and a try— l points— to one goal— s points. Play waa commenced shortly after three, the Poxton men kicking off and defending the southern goal, and it was. the general opinion that they -would prove victorious, but' it was soon seen that the Feeding M men were determined to give a good" account oi themselves. From- the kick off the ball was returned into touch well in the Foxton quarters, and for some time scrimmaging -was the order of the day; but the forwards .seemed about equal in strength, so that no advantage was gamed on either side. At this stage Roe and W. Halcombe made seyeraLruns but were never successful in getting, very far,; their opponents being on their mettle and collaring well. Tie hall was therefore n brought hkek and scrimmaged .off. < Gradually it was worked back to the •,F»xton quarter, and once W. Halconlbe managed to get over the line with tne • ball, but it was earned back into play again before he could touch it down. Shortly after this half time was called with no score on either side. After an interval goals were changed and play once more commenced. The ball coming out from a scrimmage, was passed to McEwen, who by a good run, carriedrt over the line, and secured the bxat try * • for Pending. He took the try and suein placing a goal— s to 0. Ihe • ball being kicked off again, was returned into touch at the half way flag. It was brought into play by McEwen, passed to -Gurner, who carried it over the goal line but was called back by the umpire, as it had not been brought into play at tne right place. The Feilding forwards soon • had the ball again, and by quick following up E. Belfit was enabled to secure another try. McEwen made a good trial at goal, butwas notsuccessful— 7 to 0. Just before time was called Bishop secured the ball and got within ten yards of the goal line before he was collar ed . After the scrimmage, which resulted he was found with the ball again and claimed a try, which the Foxton umpire allowed. Gregson took the kick, and although the angle was difficult, succeeded in placing ( a splendid goal, and afterwards "no side was called, the game thus ending in favor of Feilding by two points. Messrs A. Smith and Haultain umpired for , Feilding and Foxton respectively. ,
