Feilding Prospecting Association

An adjourned meeting for the purpose of receiving the report of the canvassers, Messrs Carthew and Gichard, and further business, was held at the Denbigh Commercial Boom on Thursday evening last. PresentMessrs W. S. Staite (secretary), Kirton, C. Curtis, J. Turner, Caldwell, Gichard, Gosling, Maysmor, C. 0. Staite, P. Thomson,. J. Whisker, A* JR. Curtis, Beading, J. Macdonald, F. Boe, C. Brown, Carthew and several others.

Mr Sherwill was voted to the chair.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed.

The canvassers reported having obtained subscriptions and promises to the amount of about ten pounds. Mr Carthew suggested ; that two _ men be sent to bring down *'fe% pounds of quartz for exammiatlbn;^^ Mr Staite moved that a commiftei of five be appointed to' transact"fl& business of sending men to the reefs, and the general management of the association, and to report afterwards as to what had been done.

Mr Staite then nominated Messrs Carthew, Thomson, CaldwelL Gichard, and Bray as the executive committee. Mr Gosling seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. . Mr Bray was appointed Treasurer. . Mr Carthew proposed, That two men be appointed to visit the locality and bring away some specimens of quartz, and report to the executive.

This was seconded by Mr A. B. Curtis.

Mr Staite moved as an amendment) which was seconded by Mr Maysmor, That two men be sent who should be left to their own discretion as to what steps they should take and how much time they should occupy in making their inspection.

A further discussion followed, after which the amendment was withdrawn and the original motion carried.

Resolved, That the two men sent be chosen by, and under the instructions and orders of the executive committee.

Mr Staite said he would be going to Palmerston the following day when he would endeavour to get all the information possible from the Palmerston association with reference to the Pohangina reefs, and other particulars.

MrMaysmor's name was added to the canvassing committee.

It was agreed that the executive meet the following evening at the same hour and place. The meeting then adjourned. . \.
