The remainder of the insubordinate members of the permanent artillery were sentenced to four months' imprisonment by the court martial, but, the prisoners having been recommended to mercy the Government afterwards reduced the sentence to three months.'
Sydney, August 19
The police have arrested two men on suspicion of being concerned in the murder of a policeman at Canterbury, New South Wales, on the 13th inst.
Government hare had brought under their notice the large iacrease in the number of liberated convicts from New Caledonia coming to this colony, and strong representations will be made on the subject.
The Chief Justice has delivered an address in support of the Christian Evidence Society, which has called forth a reply from Mr Charles Bright.
A railway collision has occurred at Rooty Hill, on the Western line, resulting in a large destruction of rolling stock but no less of life.
Keceived August 20, 12.45 p.m. Melboobne, August 20. His Excellency the Governor has issued a proclamation ordering quarantine to be imposed on all reseels arriving in Port I'hilUp from ports where cholera is prevalent.
The sentence of two months imprisonment passed upon the second batch of Queenacliffe Mutineers has been confirmed by the Governor.
