It is offically announced that Sir Arthur E. Havelock has been appointed Governor of Natal in the place of Sir Henry Bulwer, and Sir William Robinson succeeds him as Governor of Trinidad.
Earl Carnarvon, Lord-Lieutenant of Ireland. The rice-regal party have met with a hearty reception so far.
A man, assuming the garb of a priest, and giving the name of Father Kanorick, has been arrested in India as a Russian spy. He is thought by the authorities to be identical wiih the ex-Comaaunist Oliver Pain, who informed the Mahdi of the strength of the British troops in
Egypt. The difficulty regarding the Australian mails via San Francisco has now been satisfactory settled, and the Pacific Mail Company have resumed carrying them.
The meeting between the Czar and the Emperor of Austria will take place at the Kremlin, Moscow, on the 20th instant.
Payment of the Egyptian indemnity has n»w been commenced.
The Daily Telegraph, urges the establishment of more coaling stations in the Pacific.
