Bulls Coursing Club
The above meeting commenced on Thursday morning. The weather was delightful, and, in consequence, there was a large attendance of members of the club and the general public. A start was made soon after nine o'clock on Mr J. Bull's land. After beating several paddocks in the' vicinity, a move was made to the land^on^e other side of the road, where it was hoped hares would be f oiiroi Jnore plentiful. This proved to be the case, hareshopping up, unfortunatelyvwlere they were not wanted, and scudding away to cover before they, could be pressed into the sport. However, by good beating and patience, fiv.e courses ■ — most satisfactory; onfes— in thecjpen were got off by half-past three, when the meeting adjourned until ITriqay morning. All the officers,, as usual, worked well, and the decisions of the judge (Mr Dalziell) gave general satisf atcion. The club is indebted to Mr J. Bull, for allowing His estate to bo coursed over. Marquis, who Had' one or two chances, seemed afraid to go too near the hare, which got away to cover. ' 2. War Cry and Duchess were the next pair Handed to the. slipper. Duchess, of course, broke away with a lead, but was soon collared by War Cry, who kept the game to himself for several minutes. Ultimately; Duchess got in, but the hare reached cover before she could wipe off her opponent's score. , 3. The course between Fairy .and Wild Harry was a short but grand one in the open, puss and the dogs running around the horses' legs. Wild Barry ultimately finished with a kill. _. 4. This course was between Laurel and Cossack. Cossack skewed the greatest foot, but the hare hairing got a start made for the gate, which Cos* sack jumped in good Style, Laurel crawling through. Eventually, the Hare got away. '..+ : 6. The courie between Black :slown and Comet wm the best of thrday, Covet showing very clever work, <-wbil« Black Clo«n was also yrj active. The course was won bj a saecessien of tarns, Comet, however, gaining most points, wbioh Black Clown was unable to' wipe out even though he finished witk' : » kill. War Cry and Comet divided the stakes. The outside districts were well represented, one dog coming from Wood* TiUe, two or three from Feilding, one from Kakariki, and several others ieattr koine. — Advocate.
