The Wholesale Eviction of Miners
The miners and their families who were evicted at Denaby on April 14th, found shelter for the aight at Mexboroug'a, in schools, club-rooms, and even less desirable places, but it was late at night before all were housed even in this makeshift fashion. Oa the 15th the village of Denaby was almost deserted, most of the houses being empty, windowbreaking had been indulged in, but there were no further signs of mischief. In Mexborough crowds of the evicted men and their wives waited patiently for more than an hour to receive a loaf of bread and some cheese at the residence of the curate, the. Rer. T. Horefall. Other more needy cases received small portions of meat through the medium of the congregational minister, the Rev. T. J. Leslie. Meetings of the miners|have been held ia tho district. The process of eviction is to b« extended to other collieries in South Yorkshire, and yesterday the owners of the (.Jarlton Main Colliery applied to the magistrates at Barnsley for forty ejectment warrants against their colliers who are on strike against a reduction of wages. The magistrates granted the warrants asked for.
