Two Cavalry Colonels ordered to Resign
A Dublin correspondent telegraphs : "The recall of Lieut-Colonel Cbichester from the Soudan, after his arrival there with the sth(Royai Irish) Lancers from Dublin, has been followed by a demand from the War Office to LieutColonel Vandeleur, who remained in charge of the contingent of the sth Lancers, who. are still at Dundalk, to send in bis papers. The ground of suspension is alleged irregularities on the occasion of the embarkation of the Lancers at Kingston. Colonel Vandeleur was not on duty, but was merely a spectator of the embarkation. Col. YandeleurY explanation, which was demanded by the Duke of Cambridge, was not considered satisfactory. The ■n. Commander-in-Chief has declared that the regiment has been disgraced, and that the irregularities should have been stopped by the officers. An inquiry, it was stated, was asked for and refused. The whole subject is to be brought before Parliament. Colonel Gbicnester has been requested to send in his papers."
