Manchester Road Board

An ordinary meeting of this Board ■was held at its office on Saturday afternoon last. Present — Messrs Macarthur (chairman), Lethbridge, Bailey, Linton, andW]iibleT. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read as follows : — J. H. Hankins, solicitor, re costs in the action gf Adsett v the Board; Charles Bray, junr., resigning his office As collector to the Board ; John Menzies, re his share of payment for the work of forming and metalling Valley and Midland roads; John "Wratt .and Arthur Goldfinch, joint letter re exposure of their properties to overflow of water by certain Government works; Peter Anderson and Christian Moller, joint letter, requesting change of name on roll from latter to former ; R. Neijson, applying for a license to slaughter cattle at Halcombe. The following resolutions wero passed:— That Mr Macarthur be appointed chairman of the Board for the ensuing year. That Peter Anderson's name be substituted for Christian Moller on the rate book for sections 115 and 116 Halcombe suburban north. That R. Nejlson be allowed a license to slaughter cattle on section 142 Halcombe. That the chairman apply to the Government fur the balance of the money required for the Gorge bridge road. That Mr C. Bray junr's resignation of the post of collector be accepted. That 'the engineer call for tenders for putting 250 loads of approved metal on the Stauway road. That Mr Mcßae be allowed a man for 12 days to. make the road passable to his property, the game to be one of the maintenance men. That Mr C. Bray, senr., be appointed collector to the Board. That the chairman write to the railway manager re the overflow of water on Taqgiui road, also the crossings oil railjray near Bailey's mill, and branch line leading to Adsett' s mill. That a notice be inserted in the papers stating that if the out-standing rates be not paid within one month from this date, a certain number of defaulters', names will be drawn by lottery, and summoned for each court That Mr Hass receive a grant of £4 as charitable aid. The usual accounts were passed for payment, and the Board then adjourned.-
