Shocking Murder

(PEB UNITED PBBBB ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, February 20. A settler at Pokeno, named Eobert Prendergast, shot bis wife through the heart in their house. After committing the crime he went to Mercer, got drunk, and told several people he had shot his wife. He was not believed, as he had made other incoherent statements, and was in a lunatic asylum two years ago. The murder was committed about midday, and was not discovered till the evening, when two i sons went home and found the dead •< body of their mother on the kitchen i floor. Prendergast was arrested last night, and said, "Oh yes, I done it. < You'll get the pistol on the shelf." A i large horse-pistol, which was recently 1 discharged, was found as stated.
